OpenAI releases GPT-6.1 Terra at half the price
Models
A fast, cheaper model that reads the screen and works the computer for you: $1 / $5 per million tokens.
What happened
- On October 26, OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra, a fast model for everyday office work. It reads what is on the screen and then clicks and types in other programs: filling in forms, entering invoices, reading drawings, even editing videos.
- The API price is $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens. That is half the price of GPT-6.1 Sol and of the older GPT-5.6 Terra.
- OpenAI says Terra matches GPT-6 Astra on its office-task test at one-tenth of the price per token, and that it makes far fewer factual errors than the model it replaces. These are OpenAI’s own tests.
Why it matters for you
Prices for strong AI keep falling fast. When a model that can use a computer costs this little, it becomes cheap to hand it dull, repeated jobs: copying numbers from PDFs into a spreadsheet, filling the same form for many records. On the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index it sits only a few points behind OpenAI’s bigger models. For data work, try the cheap model first and move up only if it fails.
