What happened

  • On October 26, Anthropic, the maker of Claude, made its S-1 public. This is the document a company files with the US Securities and Exchange Commission before it sells shares to the public. It plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT.
  • Sales in the first half of 2026 were $16.3 billion, up from $1.16 billion a year earlier. The operating loss shrank to $693 million. The net loss was $80.7 billion, but most of it is an accounting charge, not cash spent.
  • The founders keep control: one special share gives them 50.1% of all votes. The price and the number of shares are still blank. Reports say the sale could value the company at $1.5 to $2 trillion.

Why it matters for you

For the first time, outsiders can read the real numbers of a leading AI lab. Sales grew about fourteen times in one year, which shows how fast businesses now pay for AI. The filing is also a lesson in reading accounts: a huge net loss can sit next to a small operating loss, because changes in the value of debt are counted as losses. And buyers of the shares will own part of the profits but will not control the company.
