Anthropic opens Claude Duet, an agent that comes to you

A research preview for US Pro and Max users: Claude watches your e-mail and calendar, sends a morning brief and asks before it acts.
What happened
- On October 21, Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app in which Claude works as a proactive agent: it comes to you with what needs attention instead of waiting for a question. It runs on the web, iOS and Android, by waitlist, for Pro and Max subscribers in the United States.
- Duet connects to your apps (e-mail, calendar, files and more than 6,000 connectors), checks them every few hours, sends a short morning brief and messages you only when something needs a decision. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5 on its own cloud computer, so it keeps working after you close the app.
- Before it sends a message, pays, signs or deletes anything, it asks you. It never sees your passwords. There is no extra charge, but the work it does counts against your plan’s usage limits.
Why it matters for you
Three companies now sell the same idea within six weeks: Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots and Claude Duet. The competition has moved from “who answers best” to “who can run your day”. For a professor or a small office, Duet can draft replies, watch deadlines or build a dashboard from a data file while you teach. Start with low-risk accounts, keep payments in your own hands, and watch the usage meter: background work is not free.
