Google releases Gemini 4 Argon
Models
Google’s new top model is open to everyone, at $2 / $10 per million tokens until November 30. Then the price doubles.
What happened
- On October 13, Google made Gemini 4 Argon generally available. It is Google’s new flagship reasoning model. Before that, only testers could use it, and it had already reached first place on the Arena text board.
- It is in the Gemini app for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and in the Gemini API for developers. It can read about one million tokens (pieces of words) at once: a long report, a data file and a video together.
- The API price is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. This is an introductory price: from December 1 it doubles to $4 and $20.
Why it matters for you
The three big labs (Google, OpenAI, Anthropic) now have top models of similar strength, and they compete on price. That is good for users. But read the small print: a low launch price is a classic way to win customers before the price goes up. If you build a habit or a workflow on Argon, plan for the December price. For long documents and data files, the very large window is useful today.
