Alibaba’s Wan 3.0 turns documents into video
Models
Video
Alibaba’s new video model makes 30-second clips with sound, and can build a video from slides or a PDF.
What happened
- In August, Alibaba released Wan 3.0, its new video model, first as a test version and then for its cloud customers (Alibaba Cloud Model Studio and Qwen Cloud).
- It makes clips of up to 30 seconds in 1080p, with sound made in the same step. It can also start from a document: slides, a spreadsheet, a PDF or a web page, and turn it into a video.
- As of mid-October it is first on the Arena video editing board, where people judge changes made to an existing clip.
Why it matters for you
For family videos, Wan 3.0 is currently the strongest tool for changing a clip you already have (“make it evening,” “remove the car”). For teaching, the document-to-video feature can turn slides into a first draft of an explainer. Access is mainly through Alibaba’s cloud services, which need an account and a payment method.
