Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model for the public, then a ban
Models
Policy
Anthropic released its strongest public model, the US government cut off access three days later, and restored it in July.
What happened
- On June 9, Anthropic released Claude Fable 5, a public version of its Mythos model with extra safeguards: risky requests (cyberattacks, biology, chemistry) are handed to a weaker model. Price: $10 / $50 per million tokens. The unfiltered Claude Mythos 5 went only to approved organizations.
- On June 12, the US Commerce Department barred access for non-US nationals; Anthropic paused both models for all customers. The rule was lifted on June 30 and access returned on July 1.
Why it matters for you
Top models can now be switched off by government order. If your work depends on one model, have a backup model and test your prompts on it.
