Claude Mythos: an AI too risky to release
Rules and risks
Models
Anthropic disclosed a model that finds security flaws so well that it shared it only with defenders.
What happened
- On April 7, Anthropic disclosed Claude Mythos and launched Project Glasswing, giving more than 40 companies access to find and fix security flaws in their software.
- Anthropic said Mythos found flaws in every major operating system and web browser; some researchers asked for outside proof. Mozilla later said it had fixed 271 Firefox flaws found with it.
- US financial officials reportedly warned bank leaders about the risk.
Why it matters for you
AI now finds software flaws faster than people can fix them. Keep your systems and apps updated; the gap between a flaw being found and being used is shrinking.
