What happened

  • On November 24, Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.5, at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, a third of the earlier Opus price.
  • It scored 80.9% on SWE-bench Verified, a test of fixing real software bugs, and was widely seen as the best coding model going into 2026.

Why it matters for you

Top models became affordable for everyday work, not just for special tasks. This price cut set off the wave of coding agents that followed in 2026.
