What happened

  • On November 18, Google released Gemini 3 Pro and put it into Search’s AI Mode on the first day, a first for a new Google model. A Flash version followed on December 17.
  • Gemini 3 led several public leaderboards at launch and pushed rivals to speed up their own releases.

Why it matters for you

Google can put a new model in front of billions of people overnight, through Search, Android and Gmail. Distribution matters as much as model quality.
