Amazon’s largest office layoff set off a debate: is AI already taking white-collar jobs?
What happened
- On October 28, 2025, Amazon announced about 14,000 corporate job cuts, mostly managers.
- The announcement pointed to AI as a reason to run leaner. Two days later, CEO Andy Jassy said the cuts were “not even really AI-driven, not right now at least. It’s culture”: too many layers.
